Consistently recording one’s ideas, feelings, experiences, and reflections in writing is known as journaling. All it takes to develop self-awareness and mindfulness in people is to journal every day. While creating a to-do list is something we’ve all done before and never followed, journaling is not the same as creating a to-do list.
Why do we need it:
There is a very good chance someday you may feel overwhelmed with too many thoughts. if you try to observe these thoughts you will see multiple repetitive thoughts are coming and putting you in a dilemma. Let’s say you have multiple things to do but these overwhelming thoughts do not give you a clear picture of which one to do when you are not able to order it this is when journaling comes in handy.
How to do journaling:
Just sit back and get your notebook, or notes app on mobile or laptop and just start jotting down whatever thoughts are coming to you. Do not worry about the sequence in which they are coming, at this point do not worry about what the thoughts are trying to tell you just focus on writing it down, and spend at least 10-15 mins to do so.
Benefits of journaling:
Now just go through whatever is written, and you will find you may see a few of the thoughts were repeating, they appear in some pattern just jotted down in differently, you may observe your authentic feelings have been written without censoring it which we usually hide or try to suppress from the society. You will feel naked because you have written down everything that is happening to you for those 10-15 minutes your insecurities, decisions, fear, pleasure moments, desires, jealousy, and the best thing is nobody is judging you it is only you with your thoughts which you can observe and this sort of gives you control over it to do whatever you can with this information.
You get insights, clarity, and a different perspective(very important). By journaling you understand how in our daily lives the subconscious mind takes over and it is the one that is responsible for most of these thoughts, consciously we are not even thinking of this. Journaling serves as a bridge between our conscious and subconscious minds. It allows us to access, explore, and integrate the rich tapestry of thoughts, emotions, and insights both good and bad that reside beneath the surface of our awareness.
